PRINCIP in English

CO2 knows no borders.

Therefore we must act on a cross-border basis, when we wish to decrease the CO2 level.

At the same time, we wish to uphold a safe and secure energy supply. Therefore we need to obtainan overview of the potentials for climate smart energy solutions.

Towards the end of 2012 the PRINCIP project (PRoactive and INtegrated Climate change In resource Planning) will map how planning of resources can helo us uptain a proactive and integrated climate change.

Amongst others, we will map the advantages by working with energi efficiency solutions, provide proposals for visions and climate and energy plans for local and regional authorities. We will also provide specific energy efficiency solutions.

The background is that the local and regional authorities in the KASK area face great challenges to address climate change. The solution is to change the into renewable and sustainable energy sources based on local/regional resources – and combined with energyefficiency and savings. A reduced consumptionand a more efficient supply system will make it easier for the loal and regional authorities to reach the goals set by Kyoto agreement and the EU as well as national targets.

The aim of the PRINCIP project is to contribute to making the KASK region a frontrunner region when it comes to climate-smart energisolutions.

Specific objectives and expected results:

  • To show possibilities and potentials for climate smart energisupply in the KASK region
  • To contribute to removing barriers by identifying the problems and regional differences but also showing the possible solutions in order for the authorities to gain the necessary foundation and motivation for implementing prioritised strategies and actionplans
  • To contribute to the implementation of climate smart solutions via increased public-private cooperation
  • To show specific examples and solutions to climate smart energysupply as the foundation for prioritising, optimising and stimulating the introduction of renewable energy, efficient energyuse and energysavings in realtion to the given natural resources and energydemand. The local authorities will be given konkrete solutions and ideas on how they reach the set climate goals for the timehorisons 2020, 2030 and 2050. A sustainable energy system demans and longterm plan.
  • To outline which targets can be reached locally, regionally and in the KASK region in 2020, 30 and 50 regarding CO2 neutrality.
  • To develop a joint portal/website on which municipalities in the whole KASK region can gain input to developing sustainable energy strategies

The added value of the project is the exchange of best practises for the development of joint initiatives and solutions to climate -smart decisionmaking for local and regional authorities in the KASK region. Develop joint solutions and recommendations in order for the local and regional authorities to reach the energy targets more qualified and faster than would otherwise have been possible.
